Twitter Tips for Small Business Owners

Are you a Small Business owner and are you having a hard time understanding Twitter?

Everywhere you turn you are seeing businesses with Follow Me on Twitter. Why? because it works. Gone are the days of static pages, now people are interested in knowing more about the business they are working with.

If you are beginning to use twitter for your business here are a few tips to follow:

1. Know your goals. (You don't always want to sell - think promotions, socializing, etc.)

2.
Use a photo of yourself or your business logo in you profile. (my opinion is to use your photo because people want to know what "you" are doing not so much the company.) Check out @zappos for an idea

3. It may take a good 4 to 6 months to get a following. (don't be discouraged if they don't all jump on the bandwagon - you are after quality followers not friend whores)

4. PLEASE don’t Tweet anything that you would not want to see on the front page of a newspaper or wildly famous website.

5. And most importantly -follow Jeff Pulver’s rule of giving 95% of the time and asking only 5% of the time.

Now get started and you'll reap the rewards soon enough.

Twitter Safety

Twitter is fun yet it could be quite dangerous at the same time. Why is that you say?

Well if you are one of the unlucky ones who tell the world every bit of information that you do such as " I am going on vacay for two weeks out of the country" and say Villain X sees that information..
well Mr. X can find out more information about you and rob ya blind.

It has happened and was reported.

In this video we talk about twitter and being safe while using it.
Please review our video and comment any other tips you seem fit. We can always make more videos to update and make this a Safe Twitter Nation.

ATTN: PARENTS - we've included additional safety information to cover the safety of your children who uses social sites such as twitter, facebook, etc.

Hope you enjoyed this video and keep an eye out for more great stuff to come.

James Delong and Steven Delong give you a little insight on twitter safety.

What is a ReTweet?

Ever seen the saying retweet or RT and not really sure what it is?

To "retweet" is to repeat/quote someone's tweet. I usually do it when I come across an interesting tweet and want to send it on down my twitter stream so that my tweeps who follow me will get to see it as well. I don't do it that often but when I do I will usually do it with something I really find entertaining, interesting, or useful.

James Delong and Steven Delong give you a little video on what it's about.

Using Your Cell Phone with Twitter

Twitter by SMS:
Sending updates to Twitter while you're away from your computer makes things much more interesting.

It's all done through text messages (aka "SMS"), which you probably use all the time anyway, so there's not much to learn.

Twitter doesn't charge anything for this, but be sure to know what your text plan looks like with your wireless carrier.

If you use your mobile in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, or India you can also receive updates via SMS. You can text "OFF" to stop receiving and "ON" to start again.

Below James Delong and Steven Delong talk about using your cell phone and twitter.
